At The Earl Lloyd Statue Unveiling

Claude Johnson attended the February 2014 unveiling of the commemorative statue of Earl Lloyd at West Virginia State University and brought back an iPhone clip of the actual uncovering of the sculpture as well as subsequent photographs. Basketball legends Bill Russell and Oscar Robertson were among hundreds of fans, alumnae, and well-wishers.

Fans listen to the wisdom-sharing stories of @NBA pioneer and #basketball #HallOfFame member #EarlLloyd after the unveiling of his #statue at #WestVirginia State University. "This is what true love looks like," he said of the sculpture and the crowd, which included #WVSU alumni, former teammates, #NBA greats, school officials, and media as well as scores of supporters and well wishers.

In a private moment, @NBA legend and #Basketball #HallOfFame member #BillRussell admires the new statue of fellow NBA #pioneer #EarlLloyd at its unveiling on the campus of West Virginia State University. Lloyd, a graduate of #WVSU, was the first African-American player in the #NBA in 1950, and was later a mentor to Russell, Oscar Robertson, and many other black players who followed him.
