Black Fives Signs NYU Basketball Star Carnegie Johnson to NIL Partnership
We’re proud to announce that New York University junior point guard and political science major Carnegie Johnson has signed a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) partnership with the Black Fives organization.

Johnson currently leads NYU in points, assists, steals, field goals, and free throws made. As team captain, he has emerged as one of the most complete student athletes in NCAA Division III basketball, combining elite performance with leadership in the classroom and beyond.

For the Black Fives, this partnership represents more than statistics or accolades. It reflects a shared commitment to leadership, education, history, and the continued elevation of Black basketball storytelling.
Leadership On and Off the Court
Johnson brings a unique background shaped by discipline, service, and academic excellence. Before transferring to NYU, he attended the United States Naval Academy, where he competed in NCAA Division I basketball while completing intensive military, physical, and leadership training.
Prior to college, Johnson was a two year varsity captain at Blair Academy, where he earned All State First Team recognition and received the Blair Academy Trophy, awarded annually to the senior demonstrating the highest all around achievement.
Beyond athletics, Johnson has pursued professional development opportunities in business and finance, including experience as a venture capital investment intern evaluating emerging companies and sports related ventures. He has also served as a youth mentor and camp counselor, helping guide the next generation of athletes.
These experiences reflect the qualities the Black Fives seek to celebrate through modern athlete partnerships. Preparation. Responsibility. Service. And leadership that extends beyond competition.
A Natural Fit With the Black Fives Mission
The Black Fives preserve and promote the history of early African American basketball from the early twentieth century, when Black teams were excluded from white leagues and built their own basketball world across the United States.

Johnson has been connected to the Black Fives brand for years, making this partnership a natural extension of a relationship built through shared values and storytelling.
Through this NIL agreement, Johnson will serve as an ambassador supporting educational initiatives, historical awareness, community engagement, and Black Fives merchandise collaborations.
A Story That Continues
While this announcement focuses on Johnson’s achievements and partnership with the Black Fives, the history surrounding this collaboration runs deeper. That story connects early basketball pioneers, New York City institutions, and multi generational impact that still resonates today.
We’ll share more about that historical connection in upcoming content.
Looking Ahead
The Black Fives NIL program highlights student athletes who represent excellence in sport, education, and leadership. The organization’s other NIL player is University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball point guard and national champion Kamorea “KK” Arnold. Their journeys reflect the kinds of athletes who honor the past while shaping the future of basketball culture.
As Johnson continues to lead NYU on the court and pursue his academic and professional goals, the Black Fives are proud to support his journey and amplify the legacy of Black basketball.
Make History Now.
