The Black Fives Murals at Barclays Center (VIDEO)
Barclays Center TV spoke with Claude Johnson, founder and executive director of the Black Fives Foundation, about the murals that are up around the Barclays Center concourse and their significance.
The compilation of vintage images is permanently installed at the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn, New York, home of the Brooklyn Nets.
It was unveiled on February 10, 2013, with a special event at the arena, which included a center court ceremony during halftime of the Nets vs. San Antonio Spurs game and recognition for a large group of descendants whose ancestors appear in the images.
The compilation, made up of six images of Brooklyn-related African American basketball teams and pioneers, and called “Black Fives at the Barclays Center,” was compiled by the Foundation exclusively for the arena.
