This week’s artifact from the Black Fives Foundation Historical Archive is literally one of the building blocks of America’s basketball history as well as the Harlem Renaissance Period.
It’s a brick. Not “brick” as in a terrible basketball shot that clangs off the rim or the backboard, but rather as in an actual piece of construction material.
Where did it come from? Who made it? Where was it used? How did we get it?
To find out, watch the video! (Hint: It has to do with this article: Requiem for a Demolished Harlem Shrine)
It’s your turn to #makehistorynow!
Putting the brick and other artifacts on display would be great.
We had one major exhibition so far, at the New-York Historical Society in 2014. You can check it out here. We are definitely aiming to do more of these or better yet, a traveling version. Enjoy!
Can you Give a 1 hour presentation about this Empty Lot on July 16th, Harlem Book Fair Day?
Hey Tod, greetings! We would love to do it. Let’s discuss offline. Thanks.
Very cool, I look forward to getting each new artifact.
